1. Feb. 4 “The Lenten Journey into the Paschal Mystery”. Preparation for the celebration of our redemption, the dying and rising of Jesus begins now as we open ourselves to conversion and change of heart. Presented by Msgr. Michael O’Grady, the former Rector of the Cathedral, SS Simon and Jude and presently a member of the Central Vicariate and Presbyteral Council.

 

2. February 11 “Henri Nouwen and the Spirituality of Imperfection”, a Dutch Christian priest and world renowned spiritual guide and counselor known for the intimate candor of his writing and his blend of the social and political dimensions in his understanding of the Gospel. He stands alongside Thomas Merton as one of the truly versatile and immensely popular Western spiritual teachers of our time. Presented by Elizabeth Ursic, a Professor of Religious Studies at Mesa Community College. She is a PhD candidate in Religious Studies at Arizona State University

and holds an MDiv. degree from Yale Divinity School.

 

3. February 18 “Charles de Foucauld”, a religious leader who inspired the founding of the Little Brothers of Jesus. He was assassinated in 1916, at the door of his retreat in the Algerian Sahara. Presented by John Auther, SJ, an experienced spiritual director, who has ministered in the barrios of San Diego. A graduate of Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, he has directed retreats and spirituality programs in the Diocese of Phoenix. He is currently associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier Church in Phoenix.

 

4. February 25 “Mother Teresa”, Mother Teresa cared for the destitute of India through her Order of the Missionaries of Charity. She was an inspiration to millions and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and canonized by John Paul II. Her contemplative lifestyle speaks volumes to all in ministry. Presented by Joanne Rapp, Director of The Cornerstone Center.

 

5. March 3, “Anthony Bloom”, Metropolitan Anthony served the Russian Orthodox Church in Great Britain for more than fifty years and a teacher of Prayer and contemplation. Presented by Father James Coles, Orthodox priest and pastor of St. Ignatius of Antioch in Phoenix.

 

6. March 10, “Dorothy Day”, With Peter Maurin, Dorothy founded the Catholic Worker Movement. How does contemplation feed social action, and how does social action inform contemplation? Come be inspired by Dorothy Day’s life and reflect on how contemplatives are called to participate in the world today. Presented by Father Bill Wack, CSC, Director of Andre House, Phoenix, AZ.
